RESIDENTIAL UNDERGROUND WATER PIPE REPAIR: It was painful having to pay for underground water pipe repair, it is very expensive. We contracted with the Gentleman Plumbers (GP) to have a trench-less water pipe pull. Fortunately the repair went as hoped, the line didn't break when they pulled the old pipe out followed by the new pipe. The technology is quite impressive, it allows for a repair that doesn't require substantial digging from the Cities curb-stop starts all the way to where the water pipe meets the house. In our case, the GP team used a hydro vac to suck out a hole about 10 feet deep and about 10 square feet wide on our side of the curb-stop. GP used an echo locator to find the path of the water pipe under the ground (really neat technology) and then cut the pipe at the house. Our water pipe had been visibly leaking for a couple of weeks, and water was pooling on the street turning it to an ice rink. We were warned that the ground would be very wet and that during the excavation the sides of the walls could collapse with a resultant hole that would require much greater driveway repair - that didn't happened, lucky for us (I'm resistant to say we were lucky because of the leak in the first place, but you know, silver lining and all). And as mentioned earlier, the line could have broken when they were pulling under the ground, in our case, about 13 meters - that didn't happen. The GP team, quarterbacked by Collin, was excellent. This team had their game on! As discussed there was the potential to have this thing go sideways and cost a lot more than it did, if that happened I think I would have still given them high marks because of their professionalism. They possessed all the qualities you would hope for in a contractor: punctual, polite, open, informative, knowledgeable, with straight forward pricing. And the team was able to perform the repair two days after giving us the quote and that was huge. They worked from 8 AM to 11 PM and maintained the same professionalism throughout the day. I hope you never have to pay for a water line repair. In fact, call your insurance agent and ask them about adding insurance. But if you do need this work, I can highly recommend GP to do the job.

The sewer had backed up several times, the guys scoped to id the issues, major bellying and poor slope. Jesse initially arrived to address a bathroom plumbing issue. Completed work in a timely manner; unfortunately discovering a more serious and extensive problem with cast iron pipes breaking down. Nick & Jesse returned next day with Walter and worked diligently to prepare for re-laying pipes. A very long day for them and lots of heavy work. Terrific! Called about 11:30 am about a leak in the basement and Ryan was dispatched and arrived by 1:30 pm. He was quick to find the problem (a corroded pipe) and had it fixed within a couple of hours. He did an excellent job of cleaning up and was really professional. We have a boiler and old radiators in our house instead of forced air heat. When our system was having problems, other companies sent people who didn't have the knowledge or motivation to tackle the problem properly. Our heat failed in November so we called these guys. The receptionist was extremely positive and was able to work their scheduling system to see us on a Sunday night on a long weekend. She was patient, understanding, professional, and just straight up pleasant. Were I to freeze to death in real life, this is who I would call to make me feel better. I talked to Jeff on the phone and he made sure that he had a good handle on our problem. He was honest about boilers being more challenging to diagnose and repair, and he was also professional and patient when hearing out my concerns. The people who came to our home were Dan and Kyle. These guys approached the problem with the methodical determination that defines proper Albertans. They were upfront about what they were going to do, how that would help them diagnose and solve the problem, and how long it was going to take. There were a lot of old parts in our system, but they made sure to get everything done properly. Even with our annoying cat occasionally waltzing in to ask for attention, they were always polite and professional. Wayne arrived when he said he would, was very friendly and knowledgeable, fixed the problem efficiently, and didn't make a mess. My sink drains again and that's exactly what I was looking for! The only thing I thought was odd was that the dispatch and travel fee was not bundled into the cost when I chose to move forward with the work. I have no issue paying to have someone come out, if I had chosen not to do the job then of course a technician's time is valuable. I assumed that choosing to complete the repair would mean that cost would be absorbed, but that wasn't the case. We have used Gentlemen Plumbers for almost two years and each time have found them very professional, maintaining a very clean, organized work area. This time was no exception and in fact, we got two technicians for the price of one - Walter and his trainee Dylan. They quickly discovered the source of the problem, provided us with two options, repair or replace. We opted for replace as the toilet was over 20 years old. They had a suitable replacement in their van and within 40 minutes Dylan had removed and reinstalled the new toilet and tided up. At the same time Walter completed our annual plumbing inspection and found everything to be in great operating order. He did suggest I remove the quick connects from the outside taps and even volunteered to go out in the snow and take them off for me! I've been using this company for hvac and plumbing problems for almost ten years and have been totally satisfied with them. Their people are competent, personable, and conscientious. I have never had a problem with the work they have done. Their prices are reasonable and their customer loyalty program is one of the few I have ever signed up for. I have never regretted that decision - it has literally paid for itself in two years with this older house. I also like that they seem to try to send the same person, Ryan in my case, so that there is continuity in addressing the issues that older houses have. He redid the plumbing under my kitchen sink today because it had been backing up and getting worse over the years, but before we did anything, he did a total walk through of what might be causing the problem and made sensible recommendations on an incremental approach to a solution. Sink is working just fine now with incremental step one!

Tried to fix my OLD toilet (at least 25 years old) - BIG mistake!. Float didn't shut off and shutoff valve started to leak when I tried to close it. Bought 3 different replacement parts and got to work. After three hours of frustration, hurting knees and bruised elbow because of the extremely tight space it was still leaking. Called Gentlemen Plumbers and was told would send someone in about four hours. Well, the plumber arrived within one hour. Walter Ahlisch inspected and gave me pricing to fix toilet but also pointed out that other problems may crop up due to age of appliance. My wife and I had already discussed that we want a replacement, and that is what we decided to do. Walter drove to a wholesaler and then installed it including a new supply valve. Work was done very quickly and efficiently. Everything was cleaned up and the old stuff removed. Walter was professional and pleasant to me and my wife. The problem was taken care of promptly and always with an explanation as to why things went wrong. Even though we knew that your company is professional and thorough, we were unprepared for the extent of your commitment to provide the best possible advice and assistance. When it came time to replacing our 20 year old furnace it was obvious that your company would be the one to do it. Your crew arrived at 9 AM and did not leave until after 6 PM. That is not to say that they were layabouts, it is to say that they were exact and precise. I needed to get three sinks hooked up and I contacted The Gentlemen Plumbers to do the job. Pros: 1. Brian, the plumber dispatched to my place, did an excellent job. He made sure the job was done right and didn't leave until he was sure we were satisfied with the work. 2. Brian also did a general inspection of the house for no extra charge and shared his knowledge/findings on several items such as the sump pump and drainage system. Cons: 1. When I called to set up the job I was unable to get an estimate on the approximate cost of the job. They also charge a dispatch fee, even if no work is done. So basically, if you want an estimate you have to pay $70 for it. I'm told this is common in this industry, however, I still don't like starting a job without knowing approximately how much it will cost. 2. The work cost more than I expected. Again, this wouldn't have been a problem if I had been able to obtain an approximate estimate up front. I understand that an estimate given over the phone may not be accurate, but at least that gives a ball-park figure to work with.
