I was an idiot and thought "Why don't I wait to call a taxi until I'm sure I'll be ready to leave? People do that, right?" I called these guys first because of all their good reviews, but discovered they were busy and would need "20-30 minutes" and could they call me back? I said I thought that would be too late, but said, sure, please call me back.

Then I tried about 4 or 5 more cabs and was flatly turned down. My flight was in less than 2 hours. This was looking like a bigger mistake than I'd thought.

The fifth phone number was ringing when I got another call. It was San Jose Airport Taxi. I was surprised enough to get a call back at all, but then he said he could be there in 10-15 minutes (beating the original estimate, if you're keeping track). Yes! Absolutely! Thank you!

I got out to the front of my apartment complex and sure enough, he showed up right on time. Super friendly, pleasant conversation (I've had some awkward conversations in taxicabs, let me tell you, and I'm sure you have too -- this was not one of them), patient, helpful -- you get the picture.

I'm calling these guys every time from now on. In advance next time, definitely -- but it's nice to know that even if I don't, they've got my back.
