Nestled right on the courthouse square in Lebanon, 1830 Chophouse is one of those places you wish your friends hadn’t waited to long to tell you about… but after tasting their Tomahawk steak and peeking at their impressive and extensive whiskey and scotch menu, you understand why they wanted to keep the place to themselves!

One of the few local places where you could take a prospective client or significant other to drop some cash, enjoy a several-course dinner and make a great first impression OR grab a $12 burger (with side) and enjoy a quiet solo bite at the bar.

Our four-person party sampled the pork satay (deliciously marinated and tender pork on a skewer) and the spinach artichoke dip as appetizers. Simple and tasty, for sure, and good value to boot. Ideal portion sizes (not huge, mind you, but ideal) on the appetizers were the perfect precursors to our Caesar salad, filet medallions, pork chop dinner and portabella chicken Alfredo plate.

The entrees, just like the appetizers, seem to prioritize simplicity and taste over bombarding you with a menu full of ingredients that you might not even taste (or, in my case, be able to pronounce!) Owner/Executive Chef Shawn Sublette came out to touch our table mid-meal and reinforced those sentiments, remarking that there is no substitute for good ingredients and attention to detail. We tend to agree!

Bottom line: Go check it out! The menu has something for all ages/tastes/dietary restrictions/budgets, and it’s truly a chance to simple some cuisine and liquor that you’d be hard-pressed to find anywhere in the area. Peruse the menu, and don’t be intimidated if some of the prices are a little higher than you’re used to seeing in Lebanon. Chef Shawn put that menu together with the confidence of knowing it’s worth it, and after your first bite — be it a French fry or a ribeye — you will too.

Sarah was great my other half had lobster thermidor I had petite filet Steve had petite filet Sandy had prime rib all which were delicious and cooked to perfection I had a blackberry whiskey on top of it thank you so much 1830s chophouse would recommend it to anybody and will go back.
And by the way ...I could cut my filet with my fork !

Found this place for dinner this past weekend. Wow! Everything from start to finish was spot on. Food was amazing, the atmosphere is perfect. Is "upscale casual" a category? This would be it. The highlight was our server, Steele. So friendly without being intrusive, and sneaky good at keeping our water glasses filled. (a lost art). Did I mention the food was really really good? We are so fortunate to have such a wonderful steakhouse in Lebanon, Indiana. The setting across from the beautiful courthouse is charming. Everything we have ordered has been excellent. As an appetizer we tried the wild boar meatballs with cranberries and pecans that were indescribably good. The steak skewers are always fork tender and savory with grilled peppers and onions and a horseradish sauce. The prime rib was perfect and the Brussels sprouts were sublime.
The staff is lovely and welcoming and our server Emily Steele took our experience to 11! We were also delighted to meet the new manager Katie who seemed genuinely invested in creating an excellent customer experience.
Our only complaint is that we don’t eat here often enough- and that’s our own fault!
